Brownout
Brown Sabbath is the alter ego of eight-piece, Austin-based Latin psych-funk collective Brownout who delve deep into reinterpreting the catalog of metal godfathers, Black Sabbath. Joined by “The Mexican Ozzy” Alex Marrero on vocals, the band is currently touring the world in support of their debut full-length album, Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath. The collection was released by Ubiquity Records in 2014 and would become among the most praised releases of 2014, including accolades from the likes of NPR, Pitchfork and USA Today. Even legendary Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne weighed in, stating, “I was shown a video of them performing ‘The Wizard’ and it was a lot of fun hearing it with a horn section. It was great!” “The Brown Sabbath idea started out like everything else we do, half inside joke, half psychotic. It was an overly ambitious attempt at challenging ourselves as musicians,” says Brownout guitarist Adrian Quesada. “Bridging the gap between our music and Black Sabbath is not as far of a stretch as it might seem though. Sabbath was not only heavy, but soulful and funky in their own dark way. Half the band grew up as metal heads too, so it came naturally. The experience is already beginning to influence our next album of original music.”
